Building Your List With Email Swaps
Building Your List With Email Swap
Have you noticed what I’ve been doing? Well, if you are not on my list you might not have a clue. But, I’ve been building my list with email swaps.
You are building you list, aren’t you? I would say ain’t you, but supposedly it ain’t proper. Anyway I hope you are serious about building your list. I have come to conclude that it is the most vital thing that you can do for your internet/affiliate marketing efforts; i.e. your business. Your online efforts to make money will likely fail if you are not building your list.
You may come up with all kinds of things that you think are more important than building your list. If so, please leave a comment below and tell me what and why. I have tried just about everything that all the so called experts said and did not see any success until I started building my list.
Now, to be fair many of the gurus advocate list building also. Two things on that: one, I never sensed the urgency and two; they never really got around to telling me exactly how to do it. Lots of good information but no details on exactly how to do it.
I have been involved in 2 list building exercises recently and they are starting to reap dividends – that’s spelled subscribers.
Giveaways events and email swaps.
You have seen some links for some of the giveaway events that I am involved in. Here is a link to one the current giveaway events that I have joined. DotCom Profit Creation Giveaway
But, the list building method that I want to talk about right now is email swaps. Here is the basic concept. Remember, I said basic – i.e., an outline.
You contact someone and ask him(her) if he will send an email to his list for you and you will send one to your list for him.
How will that get subscribers for your list? The key is that in the emails you both send out will give away something of value. I will talk about the contents of one of the emails – the other email works the same way.
You write an email for your swap partner to send to his list. In that email you say something like: My friend, yourname, is giving away a free report (whatever you are giving away) and it is yours by clicking on the link below.
You can elaborate on that as you see fit. The idea is to write briefly and convincingly so that the reader of the email wants to click on the link. When your swap partner’s subscribers get the email, many will follow through because they like getting something for free.
Once they click on the link, they are taken to what is commonly called a squeeze page or landing page (there are other names). On that page there is an opt-in box or sign up form that must be filled out in order to get the free gift.
Once the form is filled out and submitted the process is started. In this post I will not go into that process in any more detail. If you would like more details get my free report. And, yes that link leads to a squeeze page.
Once a person completes the sign up process, he gets a link to the free report and is subscribed to your newsletter. Some internet marketers call this an ethical bribe. You get subscribers by exchanging something (your free gift or bribe) for their name and email address.
As a result you list grows. Also your swap partner gets to grow his list as people on your list sign up for his ethical bribe. It’s a win-win situation for both of you.
Email swaps work and you will get new subscribers. Just note that several of your new subscribers will shortly unsubscribe. Why, I don’t know; but that’s OK. You just keep on building your list with this and other list building methods.
By the way, if they unsubscribe they will not see your next email swap and they will miss out on the future gifts that will be offered by your swap partners as well as any that you offer.
I’ll say it again, as will nearly all other internet marketers; the money is in the list. So, start building yours now.
So now you know what I have been up to and will continue doing. I hope you will get your internet marketing efforts into gear by implementing this plan into your list building efforts. However you do it – start building you list now.
To Your Online Success,
Lonnie Minton

I too have been ad swaping recently and have been involved with giveaways for years now.
One thing to remember about ad swaps, always make sure that the email you send (if it was given to you by your ad swap partner) is written to your list. Make sure it is written in your style of writing, as your list will be use to it and will act on the information better.

Right on point, it’s my #1 method for traffic, sales, and signups. List swaps and other JV’s is the way to go, anyone new to internet marketing should start learning this technique asap to start building their list now, not later.

Lonnie, I just started this e-mail swap rage what seems indeed great to build your list further.
And Joel, your comment is very valid and I will make sure I will adapt to that in my next swaps.

I too have jumped with both feet into the ad swap routine, and the results so far have been gratifying. But to play the game you need to already have at least something of a list. That means using the free giveaways to start out. And while you are starting out, it pays to buy the upgrades (if they are reasonable.) But of course before that you need a product to give away. So depending on where you are, you need to work to get a product to give away, build a list via giveaways, and then once you have some thing of a list, get into the ad swap. Hidden in this is a plan. Now do it.

I have to admit that I generally don’t participate in email swap but my last swap with Doug worked exceptionally well for me so it is making me to rethink the strategy.

Building your list is THE key to a longterm, healthy income. If only I had built my list back when I broke the Google code in 2004….oh, the mind reels.
Oh well, live and learn.
I still can promote to the lists I started back in 1999…it never goes out of style.

Very good point Lonnie and one that your readers need to take note of.
Adswaps do work and they work very well. I too have just started using them to help build my lists and it is working better than I could have ever imagined.
Granted, I had a halfway decent list to start with, which does make it much easier and much faster to get started, but one can easily start doing adswaps once they have a list of about 4-500 subscribers.
This is fairly easy to do using the JV giveaways and as Earl said it will work much faster if you take the upgrades when they are reasonable.
If I had to start over completely from scratch tomorrow, this is the exact plan that I would follow to get going again. It does work and it works very well!
