Building Your List Using Viral Marketing

If you are going to be using Viral Marketing in your list building efforts you should know what it is. So, here is my definition:

Viral marketing is passing something on to someone else. In this case we are talking about passing something on to another internet or affiliate marketer. Now, you can and should build a list in any niche, but this blog is about internet marketing so we will stick with that.

So the idea is to pass something about internet marketing on to another internet marketer. But it doesn’t stop there. You give him the right and you encourage him to pass it on to another internet marketer and so on. With luck your information will spread to numerous marketers. Just like any virus it spreads because it is passed from one to another one.

What is happening is that you internet marketing message is getting to other people. This has the potential for exponential growth in the exposure of your message. With any luck the influence of you marketing message will also be exponential.

If just a fraction of those that receive your viral message take action on your message, your opportunity to make money online will have been multiplied over and over again.

How does this help you with your list building efforts? Well, the first thing that you do is insure that the first level of those receiving the viral message have to opt-in to do so. That adds them to your subscriber list.

You encourage them to give your message, let’s call it an ebook, to everyone they know – all of those on their list. Now your ebook has gone to the second level, and they are given the permission to pass it on also.

The key is that in the ebook, you have links back to your web presence. One link that might be there is a link to a squeeze page that gives each recipient the opportunity to subscribe to your newsletter. If they do your list has grown.

Most, if not all, of the so call top guns in Internet marketing use this technique. They use it because it works. I need to mention that you give the ebook away with total giveaway rights. But, you do put one restriction on the ebook – none of the recipients are allowed to alter the ebook in any way. That keeps your links in tact as the ebook goes on its viral way.

An alternative to this is that you allow some of the links in the ebook to be brandable. This means that the recipient can change some of the links so that they lead to his product or affiliate link. When you do this you generally provide the branding software.

The important thing here is to make sure that some of the links are not brandable so that they still lead back to your web presence. You would especially want to make sure that the link to your newsletter stays intact.

Viral marketing has been a primary instrument in the building of huge list for many internet marketers. If you will incorporate it into your list building efforts, it will help you to build a larger list also. Spread the message, your message, by using viral marketing as a tool in your marketing efforts. It works and is a very good way to build your list.

Three Tips For Building Your List Now

One of the reasons that your list building efforts may not be producing the results that you want could be that you are not relating to your market. Internet marketing requires that you stay on target with you niche.

Here are three tips that will help you relate to your market.

Tip 1. Stay Relevant.

The content that you provide for your ezine and/or your blog must be relevant to your particular audience. For instance, if your market is internet marketing, than you don’t want to make post or send email content that talks about horses. The exception would be if you are in internet marketing and your topic is horses.

Staying focused or relevant will make your subscribers or blog readers happy. After all, that is one of the reasons that they subscribed. Well maybe they subscribed for the free ebook you were giving away. But, they knew that you would also be sending them additional information and when you do, it should be on topic and useful to your readers as they work in the market area that you stated when they subscribed.

Staying relevant may also encourage you r subscribers to recommend your newsletter or blog to their associates. If that happens, it will give a boost to you efforts to make money online.

The point here is that you need to write subjects that your subscribers are interested in.

Tip 2. Make sure your blog or website has lots of opt-in forms.

Your blog or websites may have a lot of pages on it. Unless you have identified some specific reason not to do so, every page should have a place, an opt-in form, where you reader and subscribe to your newsletter. If you have 10 pages, you should have 10 opt-in forms – one on each page.

You blog will likely be set up to make this happen. But you will need to set up a standard website in order to accomplish this.

If you insure that you have excellent content and that it is relevant to you topic, over time you will find that your website or blog readers will be subscribing to your newsletter.

Tip 3. Offer Something For Free.

It is a truism that people like to receive free things. Don’t be afraid of making these free offers. They work and they work quite well. For example, I get a much larger response from my list when I offer something free.

I am sure that you really would like for your subscribers to subscriber to your newsletter because they to read your newsletter. All of us do. But for some reason it is easier to get subscribers when you offer something for free.

So, create an ebook, an ecourse, get an ebook from someone else that you can give away. Then, use that as an enticement to get subscribers. Once you have subscribers start working to build confidence with them. Build a relationship with them so that they do want to read your newsletter.

Your Internet Marketing Efforts Will Not Be Profitable If..

List building is a fundamental activity for all internet marketing businesses. But many people trying to make money online take the direct sales route instead.

Have you ever noticed that a lot of people spend a lot of money on Google Adwords. Many times they will crank up their bid prices while sending traffic to a sales page or resell page. Not even making available an option for their visitor’s to leave their contact details.

They think that the most important thing is the sale. Now, there is nothing wrong with using Google Adwords to build your business. And it can even be a part of your list building efforts.

However, it is not generally a good internet marketing practice to ask people to hand you cash on their very first contact with you. A possible exception might be if you have developed a list of extremely targeted traffic. And even then you will likely need a very powerful sales letter known to convert at a fairly high rate.

Human beings just don’t work that way, and they will probably never buy from you if you approach your internet marketing in that way.

One of the keys to internet marketing is to build a relationship with people first. And that is why list budding is fundamental in your internet marketing efforts.

Getting targeted traffic requires lots of effort. And the targeted traffic that you receive may not be ready to buy, even though they have shown an interest in what you are marketing.

As to a high converting sales letters, many people are not able to put one together and those that are will charge you a lot of money.

What you really need to do is reach more people and get them into your marketing plan and efforts. In case my wording is a little hard to understand – that means capturing the name and email addresses of your visitors. Then start a process to building a relationship with them so that they come to trust you.

When that happens your sales letter will not have to be quite as powerful – super duper and fancy. But you will still need to make it as persuasive as possible.

Once you have a list and your subscribers know that they can trust you, they have grown conformable with their in relationship with you, they will be more receptive to your sales offers. Some people call this the warm up period or resell period.

Regardless of name you want to call it, or the description you want to put with your efforts to get to know your subscribers, the end result is that you want to market to the people on your list. That’s what list building is all about.

The idea is to get people who initially did not know you and were nowhere close to being ready to buy your products to start moving towards trusting you and warming up to the idea of buying your products.

Now since I have written this you know that is what I am trying to do when you use the opt-in box in the upper right of this blog you will not be surprise. And if you are going to be involved in internet marketing (any niche) you will be doing exactly the same thing.

So instead of wasting money, time, and energy on sending out a sales letter as your first contact with people who likely will not buy from that initial sales letter contact, why not use list building methods to get them onto your mailing list first?

Even when you are lucky enough to get a few sales from the sales promotion, you will not have a way to contact the buyer again, unless you figure out some way to get their contact information. Note: Getting their name and email address from the sales process itself is not sufficient. Using that information would be spam. They bought from you but have not given you permission to contact them.

You need a way for them to give you their contact information. This is called opt-in. When they opt-in and give you their contact information, then it is not spam when you send them emails. Note that some will accuse you of spam even after they have intentionally given you permission to email them.

All you can do is start the relationship building process and hope that anyone that does not want to stay with you will use the opt-out process and not the spam route.

The advantage to you in building your list is that you will not have to continue the process of spending advertising dollars. All of those on your list become a source of traffic that is already available and waiting for you to contact them.

Well, you may still want to advertise to build your list larger. As I said list building is fundamental to your internet marketing business.

That is why you will see every successful internet marketer continually building their list. It’s an ongoing process and one that you will not see any let up in their efforts to grow their list larger and larger. Regardless of how many times or how many ways you have heard it – the money is in the list.

If you are not doing things to build your list, you are likely not growing your business. Just a small example of a list building tactic: have you noticed the opt-in form that most bloggers have somewhere near the top of their blog. The reason it is there is to try to get the visitor’s to fill out the form and opt-in to the bloggers list or newsletter.

There are many things that you should know about list building. And as I have alluded to above not implementing a list building strategy could lead to your internet marketing efforts not finding success. List building is a make or break proposition for your business – your efforts to make money online. You do it, you win. Don’t do it and you lose.

A Great Event In Internet Marketing

On 4 July 1776 a great event in American history was declared. The declaration itself was a miracle, but It took dedication, effort, and sacrifice to turn that event into reality.

On July 2, 2009 a great event in internet marketing took place. The Top Traffic Tips Seminar was held.   Doug Champigny and Willie Crawford, two of the top entrepreneurs  in internet marketing divulged 14 of their top traffic generation methods and how they use them to obtain targeted traffic.

List Building – The Follow Up

This is where you really begin to build a relationship with your subscribers. You are building your list so that you can make money online. You have set up your squeeze page and now you are setting your autoresponder up so that you use all of its power.

One of its powers of your autoresponder is sending emails to your subscribers. Of course you have to set everything up or your autoresponder will do nothing.

Your autoresponder will have two types of emails that you can send out to your subscribers.

1. The follow-up or scheduled emails.
2. The broadcast emails.

The first follow-up email is sent almost instantly after the subscriber clicks the confirmation link in the confirmation email that your autoresponder sends to your new subscriber. It will likely arrive in the subscribers email box while he is reading your thank you page.

In this first follow-up email you want to do at least the following:

1. Thank your subscriber again for subscribing to your list.
2. Provide him with the links to all of the things that you promised on the squeeze page.
3. Provide him with a brief introduction to you.
4. Tell him what to expect from you.
5. Tell him that you will be providing him with offers – free and paid.
6. Remind him that he has subscribed, opted into, your list and tell him how to unsubscribe from your list.

Your future follow-up emails will be sent on the schedule that you decide upon. These scheduled emails will mostly be content, helps, tips, etc that you want to provide to all of your subscribers.

These follow-up emails will provide the subscriber with information that will be useful to him as he builds his online business. It is likely that if your subscriber does not fell that you are helping him, he will not what to stay on your list. If you don’t provide something that is useful to his efforts to make money online, he will be gone.

These follow-up emails could also be offers that will likely not change over time. Things that you are fairly certain will be around for a long time. You don’t want links in these emails to change over time.

What are broadcast emails? These are emails that you have your autoresponder send out as the occasion arises. For instance, you have just joined a great affiliate program and you want to give your subscriber the opportunity to join also.

Maybe you have just produced a great new product and you want to offer it you your subscribers. If so, you could just send an instant email, or schedule a broadcast, to tell your list about your new product.

So, what is the difference between a follow-up email and a broadcast email?

A follow-up email will go to all of your current subscribers and all of your future subscribers. For example, when someone subscribes, they will get your first email almost instantly. Then they will get the next email in a day or two and then number 3 a week later. The timing will depend on the schedule that you set in your autoresponder.

In two months a new person subscribes to your list and he will get the same set of emails. So will the person that joins a year from now.

With a broadcast email, it’s a onetime mailing. Everyone that is on your list at the time of the mailing will get it. The person that joins tomorrow will not get that broadcast. He will, however, receive all future broadcasts that you send.

The main purpose of the follow-up emails is to build an ongoing relationship with your subscribers.

The main purpose of the broadcast is to provide your current subscribers with information that you want them to receive right now – it might be an offer to buy or you might just want to send everyone a thank you and a free gift just for still being a subscriber.

Broadcast emails can also be scheduled. But the idea here is that you want your subscriber to receive the information soon. Probably so that you can make some sales. These emails do not become a part permanent part of your mailings. They are a onetime mailing to all current subscribers.

If you will take the time to set it up, your autoresponder will be a powerful tool to your list building efforts, building a relationship with your subscribers, and helping you to make money online. Your affiliate internet business online will be successful.

Building Your List Building with Squeeze Pages

What is a squeeze page? It is a list building tool. But in this post I am going to look at a list building method that uses the squeeze page as the beginning point of your list building efforts.

First, let’s look at some other names that you will see used. Different internet marketers will refer to the squeeze page as a “lead capture page”, a “landing page”, an “opt-in page”, a “splash page”, etc.

A squeeze page is a web page or web site that is designed to accomplish one thing: obtaining the name and email address of everyone that happens to visit the web site.

The whole idea is to squeeze the visitor’s contact information into a form on the squeeze page so that the visitor is added as a lead or subscriber to your newsletter or list.

There are other reasons for having people on your list, but primarily you want to build a solid relationship with your subscribers.

But, make no mistake about it, the over arching purpose of a list or newsletter is to make sales of your products or your affiliate products. Yes, you must provide very good content for your subscribers; but, in the end you want to present them with your offers so that you can make money online.

Your whole reason for having an internet or affiliate business online is to make money and the squeeze page method of building a list is a primary tool of almost every internet marketer, if not all of them.

Another concept of using a squeeze page is to put the focus on getting your visitor to purchase your product. This post will not cover that aspect of squeeze pages, but will focus on the idea of list building. That is, obtaining your visitor’s contact information. That will be only goal of this particular web site.

Now, I will introduce the reason that some choose to refer to the squeeze page as an opt-in page. The primary component of the squeeze page is an opt-in form or box as it is sometimes called.

This form or box is a place on the web page so that the visitor can enter his name and email address. Doing so makes the visitor a potential subscriber to your list. Thus the name, the visitor has chosen to opt-in.

The squeeze page method is used by every successful internet marketer. You will not be in the online business long before you will start to see opt-in boxes every day, and most of them will be on squeeze pages. You will, however, also see them on websites and blogs – at least the opt-in box. You will see one in the upper right of this blog.

The key here is that for list building, the squeeze page method must be laid out and focused on obtaining the visitors name and email address. As you utilize the squeeze page method in your efforts to make money online, your list building efforts will provide online success.

The Product or The Mailing List?

If I were to say to you, “Choose the most important of these – the product to sell or building your list. What would your answer be?

You might say, “A product to sell so that I can make some money online.” And that is important and you will have to have something to sell if you want to make money online.

However, almost any internet marketer would say that “Building your list is the more important of these two efforts.” Why?

Because if you are going to make money online, you need someone to sell your product to. True, you could put your product on a web page and get some sales. Internet marketers do that every day. They create a website for the product and drive traffic to the website and make sales.

But, if you have an opt-in list, you can promote you product to you list and some will buy. Then later you can promote it to your list again and more will buy. Most internet marketers will tell you that they make most of their money from the list.

One of the keys is that they depend on building their own list and they also depend on leveraging off the lists of other internet marketers. This latter effort is call Joint Ventures.

Also, when you develop or obtain a related product you can promote that to your list.

One of the key things about having a list is that it’s there for the next product that you develop. It is true that you must develop or acquire products or affiliate programs to sell. But if you do not start your list building efforts your marketing opportunities will be limited. With your list of the lists of JV partners you will have someone to market your product to.

You can even use your list to help create demand for you product. You can tell them that you will have something new for them in a few days, weeks, etc and keep adding a little bit about it in each email. This creates interest and demand. Your list in essence creates demand for your product and they will be looking forward to its appearance.

A mailing list is necessary for all internet marketing efforts. You need one if you want to establish Joint Venture efforts. You need to be building your list if you are running a membership site so that you can continue to get new members.

You can make money online from your list by selling your own products or by selling other people’s products. But, if you don’t have a list, you will not have a list of potential customers. In that case you will have to go looking for customers. By constantly putting effort into building your list, you will be increasing the number of future customers.

So, work on building your list first. Or, you can start building your list as you develop or obtain your product. But, make list building a priority in your online efforts. Your list will continue to make money online for you as long as you maintain your affiliate internet business online.

5 Easy Ways To Make Money From Your List

Building an opt-in list is very crucial to any affiliate internet business online. Having one can be the difference in whether the business makes money online or not.

Why is an opt-in list so important? It allows any internet marketing business to market products using e-mail. Yes, email is still a viable method of conducting an affiliate internet business online. Opt-in lists work because the opted in subscriber consents (agrees) to receiving a newsletter or emails from your internet business.

As stated above building a list is crucial. You are leveraging his list to build your own, so you want the people on his list to see your opt-in box. Don’t be afraid of adverting, it is the name of the game.

2. Allow others to advertise in your newsletter.

Make deals with other internet marketers by allowing them to place advertisements for their products in your newsletter. If you have a large list this can add to your efforts to make money online.

Set up a method to track the sales made from your newsletter. When the other internet marketer records a sale from someone on your list, you will receive a percentage of the sale price.

3. Sell ebooks.

You can sell ebooks that you have developed. You can take a compilation of the articles that you have sent to your list or placed on your blog and turn them into and ebook. You will find that manuals and how-to ebooks are always in great demand.

5. Send content to your list.
